Catch up on important dates in 2010

April 29, 2010 - Blood Donor Reception

I sent this email to Ted on April 29, 2010:

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

My Dad has given blood over 250 times and he was being recognized, along with other people who have donated blood 100 or more times at a reception and could bring his family. We all met at the Canadian Blood Donors Headquarters in Toronto that night. As we were sitting there, I saw the Registrar from work. Turns out he is a big volunteer and goes to alot of these. Then I saw Bruce enter, who used to work at the same place I do, but had since left. I had always really liked Bruce. We would often talk about musicals. I figured that I would find him after the reception and say hi. Then, to my surprise, I looked down the aisle that my family was sitting in (we took up an whole aisle, there were so many of us) and Bruce was sitting beside my Dad. They even look alike, tall with white hair. Dad and Bruce had been talking, and had just figured out our connection too. It was funny.

At the reception after, we talked to Bruce for awhile. I recently found this picture that was taken. I wish that my belly had been showing in it. I was 16 weeks pregnant in this picture. I ended wearing the same top I was wearing in this picture to the butterfly release on June 13th, 12 days after Jacob was born.

I went to eat lunch with Jessie at the art gallery that she works at. I think we ordered food from somewhere and we ate it in the back room. I'm pretty sure I had Shanghai noodles. I kept wondering if her coworkers noticed my belly (they knew I was pregnant) and if they would say anything. I really wanted them to see it. She told me later that they noticed it and commented on how big it was, but they didn't say anything because they weren't sure if I would like them too. She told them that I would definitely have liked it.

We were working hard on getting the condo ready to sell. On May 1, Laurie had to drive into Toronto to supervise a visit so she drove in her pick-up truck. Ted and I met her at her office, took the truck and moved a bunch of stuff from the condo to a storage unit. I didn't lift anything heavy. Ted loaded everything up and unloaded it. I just pushed the trolley around, which wasn't heavy even when it was full of stuff. I loved moving around with my belly sticking out, being careful the whole time. I just felt so special to be pregnant and so lucky.

May 2, 2010

This was a Sunday. My company was having a get together for employees and their families. Brunch was served and there were things for the kids to do. You can't see it in this picture, but the baby I was holding had be held a little different to accommodate my bump. The baby's Dad handed him to me and said to practice.

I can see how my shirt is falling differently because of my belly.
My sister Jessie came and is standing on my right.
